ABOUT THE JOB: Persons in this position work 8 hours per day, 12 months per year. Under direction, installs, repairs, and maintains sprinkler systems and auxiliary controls; and performs related work as required.

JOB DUTIES: Installs sprinkler systems; troubleshoots sprinklers, underground lines, valves, and controls; repairs or replaces sprinkler heads, laterals and main lines, pipes, broken valves, hose lines, electronic controls, and timing devices; installs and maintains pumps and computerized and electrical controls; installs and maintains backflow devices; repairs sprinkler time clocks; keeps records of time and material and works overtime in emergency situations; may design revisions in sprinkler systems or design new systems; and may lead the work of others.

 EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education and Experience:  High school graduation or equivalent, and three years of experience equivalent to full-time work in the installation and maintenance of automatic sprinkler systems. Part-time experience will be considered and adjusted appropriately. Any other combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

LICENSE:  Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver License and remain insurable at the standard market rate.  Candidates must submit a recent (within the last 30 days) original DMV driving record by the oral rating exam.

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING….

Knowledge of:  Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in installing and maintaining automatic sprinkling systems, including time controls, valves, piping, and sprinkler heads; watering requirements for lawns, trees, and plants in various soil beds; and backflow devices.

Ability to:  Operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, trencher, skiploader, tractor, and dump truck; repair and replace PVC, galvanized and A-C pipes, and connections; repair and replace valves and rebuild sprinkler units; repair various types of automatic control timing devices; read and work from blueprints; work from or prepare sketches and drawings; keep simple records; work cooperatively with others; read and write English at a level required for satisfactory performance and lead the work of others.
