JOB TITLE

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL (HIGH SCHOOL)

SUMMARY

Under direction of the High School Principal, works collaboratively and creatively with staff, students,parents and the community to provide an educational program to prepare our students for the future.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provides leadership and direction in school reform, instruction and curriculum, budget, and staffsupervision and evaluation; assists with the supervision and evaluation of certificated and classified staff;oversees Media Center, Librarian and Textbook clerical staff; coordinates Attendance Services Office;oversees all assessments, tests and measurements; coordinates CAHSEE parent information meetingsand phone campaign; coordinates WASC process; assists with the development of the school plan;prepares the master schedule with assistance from the principal; coordinate assignment of room use;oversees bell system and schedule; coordinates the distribution of staff instructional supplies; acts asliaison with the District Instructional Services Office; prepares Curriculum Guide and curriculumdevelopment; coordinate new course proposals; coordinate UC course approval process; oversees theadoption of textbooks in coordination with the AP of Student Services; oversee the Freshman TransitionProgram; collects and analyzes data and work collaboratively with the Data Office; assists withcoordinating and producing parent/student information mailers; coordinates Back-To-School and OpenHouse and Middle School Parent Showcase; assists with summer school; assists with supervision before,during and after school and at school events; performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a recognized college or university. A master's degreeor higher with an administrative credential authorizing service in school administration, California publicschools. A minimum of three years teaching at the secondary level. Such alternatives to the above that the Board may find desirable.

KNOWLEDGE OF: the concepts of restructuring, performance-based assessment, assessment, learningoutcomes, interdisciplinary teaming, and school climate.

ABILITY TO: communicate the school mission and vision to the students, parents, staff and community;establish, communicate and monitor high standards for all students, staff, programs and services;communicate effectively both orally and in writing; apply keen organizational skills in order to plan,coordinate and implement the Monrovia High School vision of excellence; form positive connections withthe community and develop productive partnerships.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Constant interruptions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Hearing andspeaking to exchange information. Seeing to read a variety of materials. Sitting for extended periods oftime. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials.

Requirements / Qualifications

Graduation from a recognized college or university with a master's level or higher degree; a valid California Administrative Services credential; a minimum of 3 years secondary-level teaching experience with leadership experience at site and/or district level (such as Assistant Principal, Department Chair, WASC Chair, SSC, ASB, etc.). Prior administrative experience preferred.
