General Responsibilities

Klickitat School District is accepting applications for multiple full-time secondary teaching positions for the 2025–2026 school year. Located in the scenic Columbia River Gorge in Klickitat County, WA, our small K-12 district serves approximately 80 students and offers a unique opportunity for dynamic, motivated educators who thrive in a rural setting and are passionate about engaging students across multiple subjects.

As a small district, instructional assignments rotate based on need and teacher strengths. Anticipated core assignments for the 2025-26 school year include:
  • Math: Middle School Math, Algebra I, Algebra II
  • Science: Physical Science, Earth Science, Chemistry
  • English Language Arts: Middle and High School ELA
  • Social Studies: U.S. History, Civics & Current World Issues, Psychology
  • 6th grade Core Classroom 
Additional teaching responsibilities include electives aligned with teacher and student interests, Physical Education (K-12), and World Language (Spanish preferred). Teachers in Klickitat enjoy flexibility, close student relationships, and the ability to tailor instruction to local and real-world relevance.
Teachers are also strongly encouraged to participate in extracurricular roles. Stipends are available for coaching (volleyball, football, basketball, track & field) and club or class group advising.

We are seeking independent, enthusiastic educators with diverse backgrounds and interests who are excited to bring the wider world into our classrooms and inspire students in our beautiful, close-knit canyon community.

 

Salary: Salary for the 2025–2026 school year ranges from $55,665 – $104,919 annually, based on education and experience. Full benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) plans, optional Deferred Compensation (DCP), and additional voluntary benefits. Priority consideration for teaching assignments will be given to qualified internal candidates.

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:

The following responsibilities are required of the position, plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the building administrator.

  1. Teach and instruct secondary school students according to subject and grade level assignments. 
  2. Develop lesson plans and teaching outlines using Washington State Standards.
  3. Teach using a variety of methodologies, including inquiry, demonstrations, discussions and technology/laboratory experiences.
  4. Plan, develop, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of students from varied socio-economic backgrounds who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity.
  5. Provide group and individual instruction to motivate students and effectively utilize the time available for instructional activities.
  6. Prepare, administer, score, record and report student growth data.
  7. Counsel, confer with, and communicate with parents and school/district personnel regarding pupil progress.
  8. Monitor children's interactions and nurture cooperation and team building.
  9. Collaborate with all school staff members.
  10. Follow and comply with teaching standards and safety regulations.

Other Functions:
  1. Other instructional and supervision duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Prior teaching experience, current teaching certification, and related endorsement(s). 
  2. STEM, CTE, or other vocational instructional experience to contribute toward student elective opportunities. 
  3. Desire to take on additional paid roles for coaching, student club, or grade level advising.
