POSITION: Principal
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Superintendent
DUTY DAYS: 215
BASIC FUNCTION:
To serve as the educational leader and chief executive of the school site; to be responsible for direction of the instructional program. Supervises the day-to-day operation of the school and school staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree (desirable)
Valid California Administrative Credential authorizing service at the K-8 level.
Minimum of five years teaching experience in grades K-8.
Administrative experience desirable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Is the leader of the instructional team. (Team to include administrators, teachers, specialists, consultants, special service personnel, and others).
2. Provides leadership to the staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long and short-range plans for the school.
3. Interprets and implements the district-approved curriculum program in the light of individual school needs.
4. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
5. Establishes an effective school administrative organization with clear lines of authority and with the necessary delegation of responsibility.
6. Conducts a continuous program of supervision and evaluation regarding performance of all assigned personnel in accordance with the district's adopted uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessment, recommends appropriate action in cases of substandard performances, and identifies and encourages individual teachers with leadership potential.
7. Assigns all students in such a way as to encourage their optimum growth.
8. Makes periodic appraisals of pupil progress.
9. Coordinates the efforts of teachers, parents, and special team members in working with students in meeting individual needs.
10. Develops school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline and conduct of students as established in district procedures.
11. Plans, coordinates and evaluates the total program of pupil services including: guidance/counseling, discipline, attendance, and extra and cocurricular activities.
12. Plans, supervises, and directs the business operation of the school in accordance with district policies and procedures.
13. Makes plans for the most effective use of curriculum materials, instructional supplies, equipment, building facilities, and school grounds.
14. Carries out a program of community relations as a means of interpreting and furthering school program through PTA, advisory committees, and other community organizations.
15. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students.
16. As a member of the Adminsitrative Team, assists in and makes recommendations for changes and implementation of school district policy.
17. Assists in district staff selection, placement, and evaluation -- both certificated and classified.
18. Serves on district curriculum and/or advisory committees.
19. Is responsible for assigning and supervising extra-duty responsibilities of staff, such as duty assignments.
20. Carries out district-wide responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
21. Supervises designated administrative/district personnel.
22. Performs other duties as assigned.
