We know great teachers change lives. We also know there are not enough of them. Teaching is a rewarding career with opportunity for rapid advancement, but it can be hard to know where to start. 

Our Organization: TeachStart provides an Earn-and-Learn pathway, helping people accelerate their careers by supporting them to become teachers, while offering a full-time wage, benefits and high-quality training. Our goal is to create economic opportunity for fellows while helping schools address the ongoing teacher shortage.

Applicants do not need a background in education, or teaching certification – only a bachelor's degree. 

The Role: The TeachStart Fellowship is a career accelerator designed to give Fellows a variety of experiences in teaching while providing training, compensation and benefits. 

Our fellows receive foundational training before they begin work, and then teach as substitute teachers with our partner Scoot Education. During that time, they receive paid days off, paid training days, and support completing their credentialing coursework. 

TeachStart helps to cover the upfront costs for becoming a substitute and offers a reduced fee for coursework with our credentialing partner. Our aim is to provide a sustainable wage, and a supportive pathway into the classroom. 

The role is non-exempt and paid hourly, with wages based on hours worked.

At the end of the Fellowship, we support Fellows to attain full-time employment as a Lead Teacher. 

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum 2.5 GPA
