Job Summary
The ESL Teacher will be working at Bach Viet Association to facilitate English language acquisition for diverse learners by implanting engaging lesson plans, fostering cultural understanding, and promoting effective communication skills. The ESL Teacher will be actively engaging with the Sacramento Refugee Community to enhance the overall learning experience.
Job Description / Essential Elements:

- Responsible for teaching a multi-level adult English Language Development program with vocational focus
- Teach Multiple levels of English Language Learners at the same time
- Implement a variety of instructional delivery methods, that include group or individualized instruction as well as familiarize yourself with computer programs provided that help students make learning gains
- Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
- Work under and with supervisor to deliver English and Vocational Education
- Collect necessary work from students for supervisor as needed
- Provide proper and correct American English pronunciation guidance to students
- Accurately teach Grammar, Reading, Writing, and Speaking Skills
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director
Requirements / Qualifications
• High School Diploma • Experience Teaching/ Tutoring/ ELD/ ESL/ TESOL • Passed CBEST • CA Teaching Certificate • Fluent English Speaker PREFERRED • Upper education classes in TESOL • TESOL Certificate Required Documents: • Resume • Minimum of Two (2) References • Transcripts

1. What experience do you have working with people of different social, ethnic, and religious
backgrounds?
2. What experience do you have teaching English to speakers of other languages?
3. Are you able to commit to a long-term teaching position?
4. Are you comfortable teaching in front of 15-30 adults?
5. Are you comfortable going to individual students to check on work, practice speaking with
them, and making them pronounce things correctly?
6. Are you able to work under direction of a supervisor and be observed while teaching?
7. Will you be able to co-teach a class (have another teacher teach with you, them take over
the class, you take over the class, or be the only teacher in the room if your co-teacher
has other duties to attend to)?
8. Are you comfortable switching between teaching beginner learners and more advanced
learners?
9. How would you handle a student that asks about a sensitive subject?
Ex. A student asks you what shit means.
Ex. A student asks you why America has soldiers in Iraq.
10. How would you handle a student that disagrees with what you are teaching?
Ex. They tell you a different meaning or pronunciation to a word.
Ex. They tell you that you should not teach about the Christian religion (when you are
giving a history of Valentine’s Day).
