Job Summary:
Under direction, operates a food preparation and service kitchen; to include estimating, ordering, preparing and serving a wide variety of food items through the use of multi-faceted food service facilities that involve a large amount of sales and a high enrollment of students; and, providing direction to food service employees in the performance of site programs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Cleans equipment, and work areas for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition.
- Collects money for the purpose of completing meal transactions.
- Estimates food preparation and ordering amounts for the purpose of meeting meal requirements and minimizing waste.
- Inspects food items for the purpose of verifying accurate quantity of orders and complying with mandated health requirements.
- Maintains and repair inventory and equipment for the purpose of ensuring safety and proper operating condition.
- Provides guidance and direction to food service workers and other personnel as assigned for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient operation at each site and observance of required deadlines.
- Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Prepares food items for the purpose of providing general consumption by students and staff.
- Purchases from warehouse and outside vendors for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities of food and supplies.
- Secures work area, site and facilities for the purpose of ensuring security of district facilities and property.
- Serves food items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and requests of students and staff.
- Stocks and inventories food items and supplies for the purpose of maintaining and rotating adequate quantities of food and supplies.
Other Job Functions:
- Administers first aide for the purpose of meeting immediate medical care needs.
- Attends meetings, classes and workshops for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Transports money and food items for the purpose of securing funds and picking up food or supplies.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
- Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skill to use cleaning agents, supplies and equipment; perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents. Skill in the preparation of large quantities of food, plan menus, operate, care for and maintain institutional kitchen equipment. Skill to perform basic math calculations, maintain inventory control, use standard office equipment including computer, communicate effectively. Knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles, nutritional requirements. Abilities to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, communicate with and direct other personnel.
- Physical Requirements: The Office of Classified Personnel Services embraces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The requirements of the position are maintained in the Personnel Department; and, individuals shall be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Education & Training Required: High School graduate or equivalent and two (2) year experience in quantity food preparation or service.
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
- Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.
- Tuberculosis clearance.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Certified Food Manager Certificate within six (6) months of employment.
