Position Summary
The Chief of Staff (CoS) serves as the right hand to the CEO—a strategic advisor, operational driver, and organizational culture-builder. The CoS will lead cross-functional collaboration, manage strategic initiatives, coordinate board governance, and represent the CEO in both internal and external matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Organizational Alignment
- Drive ICEF’s strategic priorities in partnership with the CEO
- Lead Cabinet and Leadership Team structures for high-impact collaboration
- Develop internal systems for strategic planning, goal-tracking, and decision-making
- Represent the CEO in key meetings and lead special initiatives
- Board Governance & Development
- Oversee board operations, compliance, and development
- Prepare board materials and support fiduciary planning
- External Engagement & Development
- Manage CEO’s stakeholder relationships and support fundraising
- Prepare materials for donor briefings and external advocacy
- Communications & Culture
- Lead internal communication systems that connect strategy to action
- Design tools for knowledge sharing and cross-functional clarity
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 8+ years of progressive leadership in education, policy, consulting, or nonprofits
- Experience working directly with senior executives or boards
- Strategic planning, project management, and facilitation expertise
- Strong EQ, communication skills, and cross-functional leadership
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and anti-racism
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education, public policy, organizational leadership, or related field
- Experience in a Chief of Staff or executive leadership role
- Charter management or K-12 leadership experience
- Experience managing board governance and compliance
- Change management and system design expertise
- Knowledge of LA education and political landscape
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting salary: $165,000+
