Requirements / Qualifications

Cross Country Assistant Coach/Guide Runner for a Blind Athlete position is currently being offered at Napa High School. The candidate provides verbal cues and navigation support to an athlete with a vision impairment on the course. They may run abreast or be tethered to the runner (tether no longer than 24 inches). Must be able to attend all meets and most practices. Must have the ability to run at the same pace as the student athlete and for the same distance. Candidates should be experienced in the sport, have coaching experience and a resume of working with student-athletes at the high school level. Napa High School desires to select a coach who is committed to developing young athletes both on and off the field. Applicants will be required to obtain First Aid/CPR, NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest, NFHS Concussion in Sports and NFHS Heat and Illness prevention, as well as all other Napa Valley Unified School District Human Resources required documents. The season begins in August and runs through November however some off-season activities are expected. The coach receives a booster Stipend at the end of the season. Must be willing and able to work with our NHS staff, student athletes, parent’s administration, and Napa High Athletic Booster Club. Must have basic knowledge of the following: 1) Character-building aspects of sports, including techniques and methods of teaching and reinforcing the core values comprising sportsmanship and good character; 2) Knowledge of physical capacities and limitations of the age group coached; 3) Coaching principles related to educational philosophy, adolescent psychology, nutrition, risk management and the rules and strategies of the sport.
