Job Summary

PE Teacher, grades K-5 (full-time) San Diego Jewish Academy seeks a full-time PE Teacher to work with students in grades K-5. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate PE lessons that encourage students to develop physical skills, coordination, and an understanding of fitness and wellness. The PE Teacher will foster a positive and inclusive environment where students are motivated to engage in physical activity, build self-confidence, and understand the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle. The PE Teacher will collaborate with fellow educators to integrate physical education into broader curricular themes and help students develop teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will be energetic, adaptable, and passionate about working with young children.

You will be kept busy with:
  • Planning and delivering developmentally appropriate PE lessons for grades K-5 that promote physical fitness, motor skills, and teamwork.
  • Organizing and overseeing individual and group activities that engage students in physical exercise, sports, and recreational games.
  • Administering formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and tailor instruction to meet diverse needs.
  • Maintaining a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages positive physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Communicating regularly with parents and colleagues about student progress and physical education goals.
  • Collaborating with fellow teachers to integrate physical education with other curricular areas when appropriate.
  • Managing classroom behavior and ensuring students adhere to safety and sportsmanship guidelines during all physical activities.
  • Participating in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide events as needed.

  • Encouraging students to build teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership skills through structured play and activities.
  • Differentiating instruction to meet the physical and developmental needs of each student.
  • Managing classroom dynamics effectively, ensuring a safe and respectful environment during all physical activities.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students to promote engagement and self-confidence.
  • Using clear and effective communication to support student development and ensure a collaborative partnership with parents and colleagues.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and creativity in designing activities that appeal to a wide range of interests and abilities.

  • A passion for teaching and inspiring students to embrace physical activity and wellness.
  • A high level of initiative and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Experience teaching at the elementary school level, with a preference for a minimum of three (3) years in a classroom setting.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field; a Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or the willingness to obtain certification within 60 days of employment).
  • Salary Range & Benefits Package: The anticipated salary range for this position is $54,269 - $69,577 The offer to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: the type and years of experience; training; practical knowledge; and education.
