Our Philosophy and Mission

The WISH mission is to maximize every scholar’s learning potential within an atmosphere of caring and belonging. WISH Charter Schools will serve as a small, high-performing school that will model best practices for inclusive education, university partnerships, and a constructivist, interdisciplinary approach to instruction that leverages technology in a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum.

 

Essential duties & responsibilities:

  • Provide a high quality, instructional program in Theatre/Performing Arts for WISH Charter Schools students.  Develop and administer appropriate lessons and curriculum that are aligned with the California State Standards, WISH Signature Practices and Instructional Guidelines.
  • Provide students with the opportunity to increase their proficiency in acting, directing, playwriting, stage management, design, and technical theatre skills through performance projects.
  • Students will learn improvisation techniques, stage movement, voice and diction, pantomime, and how to create a character. Students will demonstrate their learning in all aspects of theatre through the production of scenes, short plays, student-written works and/or full productions of plays and/or musicals for school and community audiences.
  • Direct and instruct students during performances.  Collaborate with Music and Arts staff in the planning and coordination of performances, events and/or activities promoting WISH Arts Programs.
  • Utilize personalized and differentiated instruction and supports to empower and inspire learners to reach their highest potential.
  • Establish a safe and inclusive culture of high expectations that embodies the shared belief that important academic, social, and ethical skills and attitudes are developed when students with various strengths, needs, and backgrounds learn together.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school and effectively address diverse student needs.  Share best practices.
  • Communicate regularly with students and their families about classroom activities and student progress. Involve parents and guardians as partners in their students’ education.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities, including working closely with lead teachers, principal, and instructional coaches.
  • Support the Mission, Philosophy, and Core Tenets of WISH Charter Schools.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

 

Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles and modalities.
  • Knowledge of subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks.
  • Ability and willingness to implement WISH Instructional Guidelines; Practices, and Core Tenets.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents and community.
