Job Summary

The Evidence Based Instruction Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) will strengthen instructional quality and increase student achievement by supporting educators in implementing high-quality first instruction using evidence-based strategies aligned with standards and district-adopted curriculum and resources. This role focuses on building teacher capacity through coaching, modeling, and on-going professional learning, with an emphasis on ensuring instructional consistency and equity across all sites. The TOSA will collaborate with teachers and site leaders to close implementation and achievement gaps and support inclusive, high-quality learning environments aligned with NUSD’s strategic goals.

Requirements / Qualifications

Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years experience in teaching, possess a valid multiple-subject credential, or single-subject credential, and have demonstrated site and/or district leadership, experience as a presenter, familiarity with District-utilized curriculum and software (as well as an interest in learning about new resources), ability to work well and to collaborate with others, show initiative, flexibility, problem-solving, and organizational skills, and a desire to assist classroom teachers to implement targeted evidence based instruction. This position requires lead learners who are data-driven and comfortable moving our Board-approved theory into action in an ongoing cycle of continuous learning and inquiry. Experience with Culturally Relevant Teaching, working in highly functional PLC environments as well as proficiency in technological presentation skills is highly desired.

Qualifications & Skills: •Strong understanding of intermediate and secondary standards-based instruction, evidence-based instructional strategies, instructional coaching, and curriculum implementation. •Demonstrated experience supporting teachers through collaboration, data analysis, and coaching cycles (co-planning/co-teaching, demo lessons, and feedback). •Commitment to educational equity and closing achievement and opportunity gaps for all students. •Experience using multiple forms of data to inform instruction and drive instructional improvement. •Proficiency with district-adopted curriculum, materials, instructional resources, data systems, and digital platforms. Experience with and/or knowledge of Building Thinking Classrooms, Read 180, Math 180, i-Ready and IXL preferred. •Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills to build capacity among educators and improve student outcomes. Comfortable training and coaching in 1:1, small group, and large group formats. •Ability to build strong relationships and foster a shared vision for instructional excellence across diverse school communities.
