Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Superintendent or site principal the Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) provides leadership and support for implementing the Local Education Agency Plan’s essential program components or other supplemental instruction strategies as determined by the district or site.

 

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:

 1. Provide daily (2 hours min.) intervention.

2. Coordinate with after school education site leadership.

3. Design and lead an intervention/enrichment Saturday school program.

4. Support classroom teachers in diagnosing student difficulties and planning appropriate intervention, (Tier 2) and accommodation strategies/instruction for students, including English Learners, students enrolled in special education programs, and all students with diverse learning needs and those enrolled in specialized programs. 

5. Support classroom teachers with classroom routines, classroom management, discipline and student engagement including Positive Behavior Intervention Support implementation to increase student success.

6. Provide professional development for teachers on instructional strategies and classroom practices which may include planning, facilitating, and attending grade level data team meetings to assist teachers in developing best instructional strategies that improve learning.

7.Meet regularly with teachers, academic coaches and district educational services administrators for articulation of goals and perform other duties related to the Local Education Agency Plan’s essential program components as assigned.

8. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS:              

 Knowledge of:

a. Current curriculum and pedagogical practices to effectively deliver content, specifically related to the Common Core State Standards

b. Trained in current professional development and coaching strategies such as, but not limited to, GLAD, Thinking Maps, GATE, or other specialized trainings.

c. Experience with data collection and analysis.

d. Skilled in presentation delivery techniques.

 Ability to:

a. Analyze problems, identify potential solutions and make appropriate and effective decisions.

b. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

c. Flex work schedule to include one Saturday every other month in lieu of a predetermined Monday through Friday work day.

d. Flex day start late end late. (IE 10:30- 6pm) not to exceed current work hours as defined in article 9.5 and 9.6 of the district’s CBA.

e. Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

f. Operate a computer and job-related equipment.

g. Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance.

h. Work in a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community

i. Work independently with little direction

j. Meet schedules and time lines.

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:  Superintendent and/or Designee, School Site Principal.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Valid and appropriate California Teaching Credential

2. Bachelor’s Degree or higher

3. Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development certificate

4. Must possess a valid driver’s license

                                   

 OVERTIME STATUS:  Eligible

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS:   Nuview District Teachers Association

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Salary and work year governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Nuview District Teachers Association.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Nuview District Teachers Association and the Nuview  School District and the Board Policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel.
