On average, our students have attended three other schools before joining SJCC+CS. Short term, and on call day-to-day substitutes needed to fill in a variety of high school subjects: Math, Science, Social Science, English, Fine Arts, PE, etc.

Compensation: $33 per hour
Schedule: When scheduled, will be during regular business hours: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm.
Location: This position is 100% in person at 2650 Senter Road.

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the site administrator, this position shall function on call as needed as a substitute, on short term or long-term day-to-day assignments.
Essential Functions:
- During a prolonged absence, the substitute is responsible for performing all essential functions identified in the absent teacher’s job description.
- Follow the teacher’s written lesson plans and teaches scheduled classes.
- Arrive as scheduled reliably and on time.
- Consults with Assistant Principal and staff to resolve questions and concerns.
- Complies with all organization procedures and schedules.
- Promotes the proper use and care of school property.
- Teaches scheduled classes, monitors staff and volunteers.
- Prepares a written summary of work completed.
- Makes the absent teacher aware of special situations or problems encountered.
- Upholds and follows all organization policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, including appropriate coursework in education or related field.
- Possesses one of the following:
- Valid California Teaching Credential
- 30 Day Substitute Teaching Permit
- Proof of Basic Skills Requirement having been met via CBEST, CSET with Writing Portion, SAT, ACT, AP or other equivalent per CTC.
- Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environment.
- Skillfully manages individual, group, and organizational interactions.
- Effectively uses verbal, nonverbal, writing, and listening skills.
- Averts problem situations and intervenes to resolve conflicts.
Employment Eligibility: Federal law requires all employees to provide verification of their eligibility to work in the United States. Please be informed that San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School will NOT sponsor, represent, or sign any documents related to visa applications/transfers for H1-B or any other type of visa which requires an employer application.
Medical Verification: State law requires all employees working with youth to provide medical verification of negative tuberculosis test results within the last year. Employees will also be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Background Check and Fingerprinting: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo Live Scan Fingerprinting as well as a background check, which includes a state and federal criminal history record check.
Drug Screen: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo and pass a 5-panel drug screen.
Work Environment & Requirements
Position may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires far and near vision when reading and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The nature of the work may require the incumbent to lift, carry and push equipment and materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

Employment At-Will
The San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School is an “At-Will” employer. This means that employment with SJCC+CS is voluntarily entered into and staff members are free to resign at any time. Similarly, SJCC+CS may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or prior notice, as it deems appropriate. This at-will employment relationship can be changed only in a written agreement signed by the staff member and the Executive Director of SJCC+CS.
**SJCC+CS IS A MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION EMPLOYER**
All new hires will be required to provide proof of vaccination absent an approved medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. If a new hire is in the process of being vaccinated, their start date may be adjusted to a future date after they have been vaccinated. Fully vaccinated means at it has been at least two weeks since the person has completed the entire recommended initial series of a COVID-19 vaccine.
