Position Description for South Fork Union District, Weldon, California
The South Fork Union School District, Weldon, California, Board of Trustees, is seeking an effective leader and fully qualified Deputy Superintendent/ Middle School Principal. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position on August 1, 2025. The goal is to develop a transition plan where the successful candidate will become Superintendent within a year.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in collaboration with the California School Boards Association, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the School Board in identifying and screening the candidates.
Enrollment: 340
Location: The district is in the rural Kern River Valley about 65 miles northeast of Bakersfield near a large Riparian Forest.
Qualifications:
The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent/principal is one of the most important decisions it will make. The board desires candidates that have a proven ability and demonstrated accomplishments for the following position criteria:
Criteria
Visionary: A bold leader who is courageous and will lead in a new direction, an individual able to identify and recruit talent, mentor and empower others by successfully inspiring and motivating them to achieve at high levels and is knowledgeable about the use of technology in education. Will always focus on the core-our classrooms, will craft a direction that inspires and empowers our classroom productivity and performance for all of our students and our community.
Demonstrates Strength of Character: An ethical leader with a strong work ethic who leads by example and models high standards for self, staff and students. A person who possesses the characteristics of transparency, approachability, honesty, loyalty, dependability, humor, as well as motivates and holds accountable all staff members to perform at high levels of expertise. This leader must make decisions, model, and behave in ways that demonstrate a commitment to all students and hold staff to the same standard.
An Educator: Someone who is committed to student excellence and achievement. The next superintendent must know the best practices in teaching and learning, be able to implement effective curriculum and instruction, assist in the selection of purposeful professional development, and employ systems of assessment that all result in increased achievement for all students. South Fork is looking for a creative and innovative public-school educator who possesses current experience and knowledge when supervising the instructional program.
A Community-Centered Leader who values the South Fork community and lifestyle for themselves and their family. A leader who is excited about and committed to being visible in the schools and engaged with the community in a meaningful and discernible way. A person who can effectively relate to a broad range of cultures, listen to their needs, dreams and opinions, and is skilled in resolving their issues with the schools. The superintendent is expected to be a person who invites the community to be involved with the schools and likewise models the District’s involvement with the community through their own participation in community events and organizations.
Salary: Negotiable based on experience
Initial Position Title: Deputy Superintendent/Middle School Principal
Goal: Person will transition to Superintendent no later than one year
