Job Summary
The Health Occupations CTE Instructor will be responsible for teaching and training high school students in an entry-level healthcare course designed to introduce students to the health industry. Instruction will include an overview of career opportunities in biotechnology, patient care, administrative services, operational support, and community/public health. Core instructional units include medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, CPR certification, infection control, communication and documentation practices, ethics and confidentiality, and fundamental patient care skills. Students will apply knowledge and skills in classroom labs and real-world healthcare settings through community classroom experiences. Competitive opportunities through health care competitions will be incorporated throughout the year.
Requirements / Qualifications
Appropriate CTE or Designated Subjects teaching credential or eligibility for appropriate credential. Candidates without a credential must have 3 years’ experience within the field. CalAPS will assist individuals in obtaining the preliminary credential provided the candidate can prove applicable proof of experience. Credential cost will be reimbursed by CalAPS. Three (3) years of work experience in the technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught are required. One (1) of the three (3) years of the required experience must be within the last five (5) years, or two (2) years within the last ten (10) years.
