JOB DESCRIPTION: TEACHER
Job Summary: The job of “Teacher” is done for the purpose/s of facilitating student success in academics and interpersonal skills through implementing District’s approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
Essential Job Functions:
* Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic and interpersonal skills through a defined course of study.
* Implements curricular plans for the purpose of implementing District and state curriculum guidelines.
* Prepares teaching materials and documentation, e.g., grades, attendance, etc. for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing written support and/or conveying information.
* Advises parents or legal guardians for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce classroom objectives in the home setting.
* Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
* Assesses students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration, i.e., students progress, expectations, goals, etc.
* Collaborates with school personnel, parents and community resources for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
* Monitors student activities, e.g., classroom, lunch, grounds, etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
* Reports incidents, e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substances abuse, etc. for the purpose of maximizing students personal safety and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
* Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and ensuring that the needs of the students are met.
* Facilitates students’ learning for the purpose of improving their success in academics and interpersonal skills.
* Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe environment and providing optimal learning conditions.
* Adapts lessons for the purpose of implementing the IEP goals and meeting the special needs of student population.
* Prepares documentation, e.g., anecdotal records, tests, grades, etc. for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
* Consults with teachers, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations.
* Intervenes in events of inappropriate student behavior for the purpose of assisting students to modify such behavior and develop successful interpersonal skills.
* Supervises interns, aides, student teachers, para-professionals and other staff as assigned for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school’s curriculum.
Other Job Functions:
* Networks with other teachers and school personnel for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, planning curriculum and/or providing information.
* Participates in various meetings, e.g., parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc. for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information; and/or meeting credential requirements.
Additional or different functions may be assigned as required.
Job Requirements - Qualifications:
* Experience Required: Prior job related experience.
* Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized tasks; maintain records; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel; meet schedules and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
* Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Teaching Credential for appropriate level of instruction and/or subjects, TB Test clearance; Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.
