MAINTENANCE WORKER

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, perform a variety of routine maintenance, repair and construction duties in the maintenance of designated facilities, utilities, fixtures and equipment; assist other maintenance personnel in the performance of a variety of duties related to the building trades as assigned.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Perform a variety of routine maintenance, repair and construction duties in the maintenance of designated facilities, utilities, fixtures and equipment; assist in assuring a safe environment for students and staff.

Assist skilled maintenance workers as a helper in various skilled trades including carpentry, glazing, electrical, painting, plumbing, locksmithing, HVAC, welding and others as assigned.

Inspect school grounds and buildings for health and safety hazards; remove graffiti; respond to emergency repairs as needed.

Repair and refurbish cabinets, bookcases and a variety of classroom equipment; install  white boards, projector screens, pencil sharpeners and other classroom equipment; repair student desks; install and repair floor and ceiling tiles, roofs and shelving.

Assist with replacing and installing windows and doors; assist with installing, replacing or re-keying locks as needed.

Assist in installing and repairing electrical systems as assigned; install, maintain and replace light bulbs, wiring and fixtures.

Perform general plumbing and irrigation repairs as directed; assist with installing, repairing and maintaining fixtures, toilets and sinks; repair sprinklers and dig trenches for irrigation system installation and drainage lines; install, replace and repair pipes; unclog drains; inspect, clear and maintain gutters on buildings.

Participate in painting a variety of surfaces including hand rails, doors, restrooms, ramps, classrooms, playground and parking lines, curbs and other areas as assigned; patch drywall, repair stucco, sand, scrape and mask as needed; assist with painting athletic field lines.

Maintain and repair playground equipment; repair ramps, fences and gates as needed.

Expedite routine maintenance requests; work from oral and written instructions and work orders.

Operate and maintain a variety of maintenance equipment including a variety of hand and power tools used in the various trades.

Maintain routine records related to assigned activities.

OTHER DUTIES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to:  graduation from high school and two years performing a variety of maintenance work in one or more of the building maintenance trades.
