Job Summary

Blake School, located in the historic ranching town of Woody—just 35 miles from Bakersfield—is seeking a dedicated and dynamic educator to serve as its full-time Superintendent/Principal/Teacher. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated professional to lead and teach in a close-knit, one-room schoolhouse environment that serves students from Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. With a current enrollment of 22 students and an average daily attendance of 11.4, Blake School offers a personalized educational experience where meaningful relationships and academic growth go hand in hand. This is more than just a teaching job—it’s a chance to lead a school where your work will have a profound and lasting impact. As both the lead teacher and site administrator, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in a self-contained TK–8 classroom, while also managing day-to-day school operations. The district is supported by a small, committed team that includes a part-time teacher, instructional aide, secretary, and custodian. Administrative and speech/language services are contracted through the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, and governance is overseen by a three-member school board. Blake School operates Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with shortened Fridays ending at 1:00 PM. The school features a resource and computer room equipped with 6 desktop computers, 22 Chromebooks, a laptop with a Smartboard, and T1 internet access. Additional support services, including small group workshops and tutoring, are available for students who need extra help. The ideal candidate will hold a valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and preferably an Administrative Services Credential (or be eligible to obtain one). If you’re ready to make a difference in a community that values education and connection, we encourage you to apply.
