We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. The Antioch Unified School District is a Merit System District. As such, final selection of our classified staff members will be made from candidates who have been placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility is determined via an evaluation and competitive screening/scoring of a candidate’s training and experience as demonstrated on the application and responses provided in the supplemental questions.

CLASS TITLE: COORDINATOR – SPECIAL EDUCATION
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, support and provide oversight at school sites for the educational activities, programs and services of the Special Education Department and implement the Special Education Master Plan; direct communications, information, personnel and curriculum to enhance student learning and achievement to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of Special Education services to students.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Plan, organize, coordinate and implement Special Education operations and activities at school sites; monitor, evaluate and adjust Special Education activities in response to student needs; assist in assuring related activities comply with established standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
Serve as a liaison and coordinate communications and information between District staff, administrators, outside organizations, governmental agencies, parents and the community concerning Special Education services; assure proper and timely resolution of Special Education issues and conflicts.
Provide technical assistance to district staff, faculty, administrators, outside agencies, parents and the public concerning Special Education services and related intervention and instructional activities; respond to inquiries and provide detailed and technical information concerning related plans, guidelines, staffing, student placement, reports, standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
Participate in a variety of activities to enhance staff and school sites’ understanding of educational practices, instructional material guidelines, curriculum and instructional strategies related to Special Education; visit sites to monitor and provide support for Special Education instructional activities.
Assist parents with understanding child rights related to equal educational opportunities; provide parent training and education; coordinate and facilitate community participation in Special Education-related meetings; assist with the implementation of intervention activities as appropriate.
Develop, implement and conduct training and staff development activities concerning Special Education services, related curriculum and instructional activities; prepare and deliver oral presentations and explain related legal mandates, principles, theories, standards, guidelines, requirements, practices, procedures and techniques.
Coordinate student assessment activities to ensure IEPs are conducted and identified students are tested in a timely manner; develop plans for assessment test administration as appropriate, provide staff development activities concerning State and District assessments and moving students to less restricted learning environments as appropriate.
Work closely with the Director of Special Education to oversee coordination of curriculum and instruction to ensure identified needs are addressed appropriately; develop plans for reform; provide professional development activities to ensure the accurate dissemination of information, the inclusion of RtI and Special Education strategies in schools’ Academic Plans.
Collaborate with administrators, staff and outside organizations in the planning, development and implementation of Special Education services and related plans, strategies, projects, goals and objectives; ensure students are identified, tested and placed appropriately.
Assist and train staff and faculty in the use of instructional materials and equipment; assist staff with differentiating curriculum materials and applying academic standards, courses of study, teaching guides and assessments.
Train and provide work direction and guidance to designated staff as required; review work for compliance with established legal requirements, standards and procedures.
Compile information and prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to Special Education services, students, demographics, assessment and assigned activities; respond to requests for data and information from State and Federal agencies.
Communicate with administrators, personnel, outside agencies and the public to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns; establish and maintain partnerships with outside agencies to facilitate and enhance support for Special Education services.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
Compose, distribute and respond to a variety of correspondence related to Special Education services and activities; provide oral and written communications as assigned.
Maintain current knowledge of educational methods, practices and standards related to Special Education and related laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures; assist with modifying services to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.

• Planning, organization, coordination and implementation of Special Education operations and activities including instructional support, technical assistance services, assessments and school/community education.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Successful teaching experience in Special Education. Teacher leader experience preferred.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Administrative Services Credential.
Valid California driver's license.
