POSITION TITLE: Speech and Debate Head Coach & Instructor SUPERVISED BY: Asst. Principal for Student Life & Asst. Principal for Academics FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt, part-time (may be combined with other positions to equal full time) EFFECTIVE DATE: August 1, 2025 COMPENSATION: $35.70-$56.10 based on education and years of experience (full time positions may range from $60,000 - $110,000) Position Summary SHC’s Speech and Debate Head Coach & Instructor is an enthusiastic leader who will teach, coach and coordinate our speech and debate team. Primary responsibilities are to teach an introductory speech and debate class, coach debate (Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, Congress, and others depending on need), organize and facilitate tournament registration and competition, coordinate and communicate with students, parents, faculty, and promote the team throughout the community. Essential Duties, Roles and Responsibilities: Mission Invest in the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers through active mission and Catholic formation. Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic educator; Promote SHC’s mission, philosophy and Integral Student Outcomes; Support the co-curricular programs of the school community. Major Areas of Responsibility Teach students the skills required for competition. Attract, coordinate, support, and oversee assistant speech and debate coaches to coach and manage the team. Attend speech & debate tournaments and stay current with league, state, and national rules, procedures, judging standards, and tournaments. Maintain a detailed record of the speech & debate team roster. Communicate regularly and reliably with designated students, parents and faculty. Consult with students about ways to recruit and encourage others to participate in order to grow the program. Prepare and maintain budget for the program. Must be able to work some nights
