General Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Specialized Services Birth to 21 Executive Director, the Special Education Assistant Director provides educational leadership and direction for school district special education programs within the 30 school district members of the ESD 112 Special Education ESA.
Assignment/LocationThis position will serve the Cascade and Index school districts for the 2025-2026 school year. This position is full time, 215 days, and the assignment will start on August 4, 2025.
This position will close on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
Essential Functions/Other Functions
Essential Functions:
- Use data, research and best practices to design and lead special education programs and services that provide special education students with a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment.
- Coordinate programs and services to identify, assess, place and serve eligible students special education services and ensure student progress.
- Assign, supervise, evaluate and develop special education staff to support the educational needs of special education students.
- Build and maintain productive relationships and strong partnerships with families, school district staff, community agencies; and local, state and federal government entities.
- Manage the day-to-day special education program operations for the Special Education ESA member districts to maximize resources and assure a safe, efficient and effective learning environment for students and staff.
- Assure compliance with all federal, state, agency and school district laws, rules, regulations and procedures that govern students with disabilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Hold or eligible to hold a Washington administrative credential.
- Hold or eligible to hold a valid Washington teaching certificate or ESA certification.
- Masters degree.
- Three years teaching or other certificated experience (e.g., school psychologist, speech pathologist, physical therapist).
- Administrative experience serving special education populations.
- One year of educational leadership experience that includes employee supervision and evaluation.
- Experience designing curriculum and instructional strategies for special education populations.
- Experience delivering professional development to teachers and support staff.
Working Conditions/Employment Requirements
Working Conditions:
- School building work setting, office environment.
- Travel to assigned districts in ESD 112 Special Education ESA service region.
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
