Job Summary
This position is required to work 10-6 daily supporting the comprehensive program at a K-8 school as well as the after school Expanded Learning Opportunities Program. School counselors work closely with the administrative and school staff to support the social emotional and academic needs of all students at their school site.

Provides onsite counseling services to pupils and parents which assist the pupil in making appropriate decisions relative to his/her school program and his/her relationships with teachers, administrators, and other pupils.
Duties:
1. Maintain liaison with District student services personnel assigned to the school as directed by the principal.
2. Provides assistance to teachers in the interpretation of abilities and needs of individual pupils.
3. Provides assistance to teachers in planning and conducting parent-teacher conferences. May participate in parent-teacher conference upon request.
4. Assists the staff in the reinforcement of appropriate school behavior.
5. Makes preliminary evaluation of the school problems of pupils referred by teachers, the principal, and others, and requests the services of district student services personnel in dealing with these difficulties when appropriate.
6. Assists the teachers and the principal in achieving the optimum placement within the school for each pupil.
7. Counsels pupils and their parents on matters relating to the pupil’s adjustment to school.
8. Assists the principal in planning and conducting inservice education experiences for the staff in such areas as human relations, child growth and development, and guidance function of the classroom teacher.
9. Assumes other related duties assigned by the principal.
Counselor will work 183 days. The adopted work year salary and benefit schedule will be established annually by the Board of Trustees, a copy of which will be found in District Policy.
Qualifications:
1. Master's Degree, with emphasis in education and counseling
2. Valid Pupil Personnel Credential
3. Valid Driver's License
4. Any combination of one year teaching and/or Clinical Internship experience
5. Possess the following personal qualities:
a. Ability to meet district standards for physical and mental health
b. Evidence of good moral character
c. Satisfactory recommendations from training supervisors or other professionals
who have observed the candidate characteristics, scholastic achievement and
job-related performance
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as there district may find appropriate and
acceptable.

Terms of Employment:
Salary, benefits and work year as provided by contract between the Board of Trustees and the designated exclusive bargaining unit.
Evaluation:
The evaluation and assessment of performance of the counselor will be conducted by the principal in accordance with the provisions of Education Code 44660-44665 and Oxnard School District Board Policy 5450.
