LCAP LANGUAGE ARTS SPECIALIST
THE POSITION
Under the guidance of Educational Support Services and the general supervision of an assigned Principal, provide an instructional program to assist eligible students in attaining proficiency in Common Core Standards and English language development standards. Additionally, the Language Arts Specialist will provide classroom teachers with staff development (strategies and modeling) and coaching to address English learners and at-risk students. The Language Arts Specialist is responsible for implementing academic opportunities which promote high achievement for all students, including closing the achievement gap.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive:
- Delivery of strategic and targeted direct instruction to students.
- Provide English Language Development.
- Deliver uniform staff development specific to at-risk students.
- Model effective instructional strategies for students and staff.
- Provide in classroom coaching, modeling/demonstrations, elbow coaching, consulting, observation/non-evaluative feedback and other assistance to site staff.
- Work with teachers to integrate ELD Standards and ELA Standards into content lessons.
- Help teachers implement a rigorous and demanding curriculum through facilitating discussions, coordinating professional development, and monitoring students’ progress during Professional Learning Communities.
- Support classroom teachers in understanding and implementing the District’s core instructional program in language arts; assist teachers in differentiating instruction to provide greater access to the core curriculum, especially for EL and at-risk students.
- Facilitate frequent progress monitoring of students.
- Provide support and training in creation, administration, scoring, and on-line reporting of assessments.
- Interpret disaggregated data for school community, student, staff, and parents/guardians.
- With site administration and supplemental coordination, plan and hold meetings with EL parents to generate interest and establish a site ELAC.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
- Valid California English Credential/Authorization.
- Authorization to work with English Language Learners (i.e. CLAD or BCLAD Certification or Authorization).
- Valid Driver’s License
- Three or more years of teaching experience.
- Ability to collaborate with appropriate District and school-based administrators and programs.
- Significant education and experience in ELA practices.
WORK YEAR: 185 Days
SALARY: Certificated Salary Schedule “A”
