LEAD CUSTODIAN Class Summary Under general supervision, to lead a crew in keeping an assigned building area clean, sanitary, safe and orderly; to secure rooms and buildings; to do special cleaning and building maintenance periodically; to do some outdoor cleaning; and to do related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Coordinates and monitors the work of other custodians; maintains records; trains new employees and checks work performance; sweeps, mops, waxes and seals floors; vacuums rugs and carpets; dusts, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork; empties and cleans waste receptacles; washes windows, walls, sinks and fountains; cleans restrooms; polishes metalwork; fills paper and soap dispensers; replaces light bulbs; replenishes supplies; turns out lights and secures area by locking doors, windows, and gates; patrols areas to prevent vandalism and theft; moves, arranges and sets up furniture and equipment for sporting and special events and meetings; directs students and visitors to designated areas; raises, lowers, folds and stores flags; may perform general grounds keeping work around the school site such as weeding flower beds, raking leaves, edging and watering lawns; may transport goods and materials from one location to another; during the time when school is not in session, positions assigned to this class may participate in general maintenance and repair work such as painting, carpentry, relining fields, or other special projects. QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade; and one year of experience in the maintaining and cleaning of building areas. KNOWLEDGE OF Methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning various types of surfaces and furniture; safety related to cleaning methods, practices and equipment. ABILITY TO Coordinate and monitor work schedules of others; maintain work schedules in performing tasks; perform light to moderate manual work; prepare and maintain simple records; work without immediate supervision; be on call in case of emergencies; operate specialized cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. LICENSES Some positions may require a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. PHYSICAL Good physical condition as determined by pre- and post - employment inquiries and health reports. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
