The Compass Charter Schools (CCS) Speech and Language Pathologist is a highly qualified member of the Special Education Department. Under the direction of the Special Education Coordinator, the Speech and Language Pathologist will work collaboratively to strengthen the performance of scholars.

Essential requirements to serve in the Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant role:   

  • Minimum of a certificate in SLPA and possess an appropriate speech and language license by the State Department 
  • Experience working with Online schools and/or online or virtual environments

Desired skills to serve in the Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant role:   

  • Excellent communication 
  • Highly proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Office Suite, CSS Student Information System, SEIS, and CALPADS 
  • Ability to work collegially with others in the organization
  • Record-keeping techniques 
  • Methods of collecting and organizing data and information 
  • Support SLP’s with providing services and running sessions
  • implement treatment plans, goals, and objectives to correct speech and language dysfunction 

Essential duties and Responsibilities for the Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant may include:

  • Provide direct, individual, or small group instruction to identified pupils on a regularly scheduled basis as required in the IEP under the supervision of the SLP
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure that students meet the goals outlined in their IEPs. 
  • Develop instructional materials and strategies for speech students for therapy sessions under the direction of the SLP.
  • Develop and implement educationally-based IEP communication goals using a variety of service delivery models to support the classroom curriculum.
  • Support the SLP in speech and language screenings and formal assessments. Implement treatment plans under the supervision of the SLP.
  • Participate in implementing Individual Educational Plans for students who qualify for Designated Instructional Services (DIS) SLI under the SLP
  • Provide direct services to scholars with speech-language impairments by providing individualized strategies to facilitate specific communication skills under the direction of the SLP..
  • Participate in and support division and scholar recruitment/retention initiatives, scholar engagement experiences, and school-wide events, as needed.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development opportunities. Including but not limited to the creation and implementation of staff development activities.
  • Assist others as needed in meeting department and organizational goals.

Work Environment:

Position is based in an approved home office in the State of California. As the safety, adequacy, and functionality of the approved home office is key, approval must be provided to work from any other location with the exception of the CCS Center location. May be required to also work from the Central Office, Learning Center, or other Compass location. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed to meet the needs of scholars, learning coaches (parents), and staff. Must be able to travel throughout the State of California for school-related activities. Notify HR if any work will be performed in San Francisco or out of state for any period of time.
