School Psychologist Brief Description of Position The psychologist’s hours are 8 to 5 p.m. with an hour for lunch – Monday through Friday. Four days per week are devoted to the high schools and the remaining one to the elementary schools. The psychologist assigned to Turlock High School is responsible to the Assistant Principal and for all appropriate matters pertaining to students and programs. He is responsible to the principal of any other school to which he is assigned. He is responsible to the Turlock Coordinator of Special Education for all matters pertaining to special education programs in both districts. Major Duties and Responsibilities Administer and interpret the results of individual psychological tests of ability, achievement, and personality. Do diagnostic studies of reading and other learning disabilities. Assist the School Appraisal Team in planning school programs including instructional plans for individual pupils with mental, emotional, academic, and/or physical handicaps. To prepare appropriate materials to be used for the midyear and annual assessments and evaluations as required. Utilize significant information from test data, observations, developmental history, school records, etc., in developing case reports, interpretations of the problem, and recommendations for follow-up. The original of this report must be filed in the psychologist’s office, and a copy filed with the student’s resource specialist, the counselor and the school principal. Assists principals, counselors, teachers, and resource specialists in understanding and using psychological techniques in interpreting test data and in understanding the dynamics of pupil behavior. Participate in parent conferences, case conferences, and referrals to clinics and social agencies when requested to do so. Assist in parent study groups, in-service training programs, committee activities, and faculty meetings when invited to do so by the building principal. Counsel with student and/or parent when requested to do so. Prepare complete psychological reports for physicians, mental health clinics, and other agencies when indicated. To submit to the Assistant Principal each Friday, a weekly plan of activities for the ensuing week. This must indicate the school(s) to be served each day. To submit to the Assistant Principal each Monday a detailed daily log (by hour) of work – (when, what, where, why) for the previous week. To perform any other related activities as may be required.
