General Responsibilities

Reporting to the Specialized Transportation Director, the Driver Trainer position is on an "as needed basis".

Assignment:
This position is on an "as needed" basis with the opportunity for flexible/alternative hours. The work is primarily in Clark County, with opportunities in Cowlitz and Klickitat counties (if desired). Work related travel will be reimbursed in accordance with ESD 112 travel policies and procedures.

Regular attendance required: accepting and working full substitute assignments is an expectation of this position.

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Function:

  1. Conduct bus driver training, assuring compliance with state laws and regulations and district policies.
  2. Maintain training, safety and other transportation records consistent with all federal and state laws, and ESD 112 policies.
  3. Conduct driving evaluations and retraining programs on an individual basis when necessary.
  4. Conduct special training programs, i.e. driver responsibilities and techniques, working with special needs students, as well as special tools and equipment.
  5. Attend the state required Driver Trainer In-Service to maintain Driver Trainer Certification. 
  6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and work well with others, including listening empathetically, developing new employees and motivating staff to do their best.
  7. Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Other Functions:
  1. Maintain confidentiality and professional communication with ESD staff and Community Partners. 
  2. Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Hold a valid state class A or B commercial driver's license with "S" and "P1" endorsements and a valid Washington State School bus driver authorization.
  3. Certificate of Completion of OSPI's School Bus Driver Trainer course and Certificate of Completion of the mandated OSPI annual Driver Trainers In-Service that is put on by OSPI.
  4. Two years of experience as a school bus driver.
  5. Hold or be able to obtain within 60 days a valid First Aid card.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience as a bus driver working with special needs students.
  2. Two years of experience as a school bus driver trainer.

 

Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Working Conditions:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Hold a valid state class A or B commercial driver's license with "S" and "P1" endorsements and a valid Washington State School bus driver authorization.
  3. Certificate of Completion of OSPI's School Bus Driver Trainer course and Certificate of Completion of the mandated OSPI annual Driver Trainers In-Service.
  4. Two years of experience as a school bus driver.
  5. Hold or be able to obtain within 60 days a valid First Aid card.

Employment Requirements:

  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
