MAINTENANCE PLUMBER DEFINITION: Under supervision, perform skilled and semi-skilled plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance work in District facilities; and perform related duties as required. TYPICAL DUTIES: 1. Install, repair, and maintain a wide variety of plumbing fixtures and equipment, such as faucets, valves, showers, control devices, dishwashers, disposals, pumps, toilets, drinking fountains, water lines, and sewer lines; 2. Install, replace, and repair steam lines; 3. Clear stoppages; repair breaks and leaks; 4. Cut, thread, and sweat pipe; 5. Conduct inspections for needed repairs; 6. Rough in plumbing fixtures; install drains, water lines, gas lines, and sinks; 7. Work on boilers as assigned; 8. Repair water heaters; 9. Repair and/or replace various types of controls on kitchen and boiler equipment; 10. Requisition supplies and equipment; 11. Operate various power tools; and 12. Provide work direction to others as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of the materials, tools, equipment, and methods of the plumbing trade; 2. Ability to estimate labor and material equipments; 3. Ability to work from drawings and blueprints; 4. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; 5. Ability to use and care for tools and equipment; 6. Ability to lift; and 7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma, or equivalent; 2. Four years of varied plumbing experience, including six months at the journeyman level. LICENSE REQUIRED: 1. Possession of a valid State of California Class C Driver’s License.
