JOB DESCRIPTION
SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Job Title: School Counselor
Reports to: Director of Education for General Education or Special Education Program Manager for IEP Students
Evaluated by: Director of Education
Terms of Employment: Subject to the letter of agreement
Work Schedule: Full time, Exempt up to 187 days
Compensation: Commensurate with education & experience in accordance with the MBCS Salary Schedule
Primary Function: The School Counselor provides direct services and support to students ranging in age from kindergarten through middle school. The counselor is responsible for providing a variety of individual and group counseling to students aligned to restorative justice practices that support the mission and vision of the school.
Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities:
Collaborates with the administration, specialists, staff and faculty members to effectively implement the Multi-Tiered System of Support program, social emotional, and restorative learning practices at the the school
Ensure counseling programs meet school goals
Provides individual and group counseling services and whole class social emotional lessons that emphasize improved educational performance and positive behavioral outcomes for students and classes
Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student’s academic and educational needs and abilities
Works with students in individual, group and classroom settings
May participate as a member of multidisciplinary IEP/504/SST teams to develop plans collaboratively for students; including writing goals and objectives, reporting on present levels of performance and updating on goal progress
Provide collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting staff & faculty with suggestions and implementation of MTSS, pre-referral intervention strategies, and providing recommendations and modifications to assist staff & faculty in working with students in the classroom setting
Consult with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student‘s program and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home
Maintain appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information
Complete informal assessments to determine extent of progress and effectiveness of therapy
Establish and monitor the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage mental health services for students/staff and work cooperatively to accomplish stated goals and outcomes
Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing general and special education programs.
Participate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance therapy services and schoolwide MTSS services
Supports and implements the LEA’s policies, regulations, procedures, and administrative directives
Demonstrates ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of duties
Advises and counsels students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social or emotional problems
Teaches guidance classes and provides guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents
Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.
Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures
Participates in the life of the school by regularly attending faculty meetings, events outside of school hours, performs collateral duties, work-study and in-service days during school holidays or weekends as required or assigned
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Required:
A MFT, LCSW or a CA PPS Credential.
CPR certification within six months of employment
Clear TB test results dated within 60 days of hire to be submitted within 10 days of hire required
Preferred:
Master’s degree
Waldorf certification, education, training or experience with Waldorf pedagogical theory and practice
Strong program management skills
2+ years of experience in a supervisory role
