MONROVIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

TITLE: ENGLISH TEACHER

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid California Credential; EL Certification Required

JOB GOAL: To teach one or more classes of English to pupils in grades 6-8 or 9-12 and assist in other school programs as assigned

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches content and skills in English language, reading, literature and composition, utilizing California State Standards.
- Adapts English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge pupils.
- Selects books and instructional aids to achieve instructional goals and behavioral objectives.
- Provides individual and small group instruction for advanced and remedial pupils as appropriate.
- Strives to develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions of literature and magazines.
- Encourages pupils to think independently and express original ideas.
- Evaluates each pupil's progress in skills of speaking, writing and reading, and prepares progress reports.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed for an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in district inservice educational activities or in self-selected professional growth courses.
- Identifies pupil needs and works with other professional staff members to help pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on individual pupil's progress.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
- Works with pupils and other classroom teachers in various school related activities.
- Administers group tests.
- Order books, instructional aids and supplies, and keeps inventory records.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school and on the district level.
- Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
- Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.
- Plans and coordinates the work of aides and readers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
