About Employer HighTech Los Angeles Middle School is a public, charter middle school in the Van Nuys community in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, serving 250 6th -8th graders. HTLA MS was founded in the 2018-19 school year. HighTech LA MS is guided by four student learner outcomes: technology, community, collaboration, and communication, rooted in project based learning (PBL). Our team is made up of a highly collaborative group of staff members who share a passion for educating middle school students. We have high expectations for academics and discipline, and simultaneously value joy in the classroom, making learning engaging for our scholars and teachers. Job Summary To Students: Instructional Oversight: Ensure high-quality teaching, including for English Learners and students with special needs. Learning Environment: Foster a safe, joyful, and engaging school culture. Student Support: Monitor student progress, administer assessments, and oversee interventions for struggling students. Family Engagement: Build trusting relationships with students and families. Safety and Supervision: Supervise students during school hours and implement safety plans. Testing Coordination: Administer state and national standardized tests (e.g., CAASPP, ELPAC). To Staff: School Operations: Manage academic and operational systems; strategic planning and curriculum development. Professional Development: Lead training and coach teachers; ensure alignment with achievement plans. Staff Supervision: Hire, evaluate, and support staff; mediate conflicts; maintain professional culture. Instructional Leadership: Guide teachers in lesson planning and instructional strategies, particularly for targeted student populations. Compliance & Policy: Ensure adherence to educational mandates and school policies; propose policies to the Board. Family & Community Engagement: Organize events, maintain communications, and support parent involvement. Administrative Leadership: School Governance: Serve as the school’s instructional and operational leader; report to the Board; represent the school in official matters. Budget and Contracts: Develop and manage the budget, approve contracts and expenditures. Legal and Policy Compliance: Ensure school policies meet legal requirements; coordinate with legal counsel as needed. Enrollment and Outreach: Oversee recruitment, lottery, and student orientation processes. Other Duties: Respond to emergencies or personnel shortages. Support extracurricular activities and community affairs. Handle student discipline and attend SST/IEP meetings as needed. Perform any additional duties assigned by the Board of Directors.
