Basic Job Description: The Technology Specialist I shall be under the direct supervision of the Director of Information Technology and shall adhere to all applicable laws, rules, and regulations of the state, county, and school district governing board. The Technology Specialist I shall be familiar with and comply with all collective bargaining contracts pertinent to this position.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to district helpdesk requests received by various methods (electronic mail, landline, mobile phone, text, chat etc.)
- Provides technical support to all District users
- Installs a variety of computer, peripheral, and communication equipment (e.g. computer, portable device, printer, UPS, access point, projector, telephone, etc.)
- Installs a variety of software products on a variety of hardware platforms
- Inspects a variety of computer, peripheral, and communication equipment, applies industry standard troubleshooting methods to identify repair needs, and performs required repairs
- Orders equipment, supplies, and materials using approved Information Technology department procedures
- Transports a variety of computer, peripheral, and communication equipment to various job sites
- Enforces district acceptable use policies
- Documents inspection, troubleshooting, repairs, and orders using the department approved work order system
- Maintains an acceptable attendance record
- Maintains a clean and orderly work station
- Willingness to update skills and knowledge commensurate with the demands of the position
- Performs other related duties as equitably assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Ability to communicate with district personnel by various methods (electronic mail, landline, mobile phone, text, chat etc.)
- Ability to communicate with students, administrators, district personnel, and the public regarding hardware and software operations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels with or without hearing aids
- Ability to pass the District job related examination
- Ability to prioritize and schedule work
- Ability to see and read with or without vision aids
- Ability to understand, prepare, and document technical materials
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, administrators, staff, district personnel, and the public
- Ability to work independently with little direction
- Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures necessary for computer/network system operations
REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSE
- Education – High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification – Have or obtain an A+ or higher certification within six months of hire
- Experience – Any combination of experience and training which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform duties and responsibilities as described
- License – Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license
