Job Summary
The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting to establish an eligibility pool for the position of Special Education Teacher - Alternative Education for the Special Education department of the Student Services and Programs division. Under general supervision from assigned administrator, Special Education Teacher – Alternative Education Program is responsible for planning and implementing quality learning experiences, preparing daily lesson plans, creating a stimulating instructional environment conducive to student mastery and maintaining case management responsibilities. JCCS sites are located throughout San Diego County. Applicants will be able to indicate region preference in the application. ABOUT JCCS: SDCOE's Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS) provide a fully accredited educational program for school-age youth who are either wards of the court or have been referred by social services, probation, or one of the 42 school districts in San Diego County. Services are provided to students who are incarcerated, pregnant or parenting, in foster care, expelled, chronically truant, in drug treatment centers and group homes for neglected or abused children, and experiencing homelessness.
Requirements / Qualifications
These positions requires the following education and experience:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree Special Education or related field preferred; and,
Experience: Experience in the development and writing of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that meet legal requirements, assessment procedures, and adherence to federal and state regulations for students with disabilities. Experience in providing instruction in urban settings, working with a diverse student population, multicultural instructional methods, and strong behavior intervention and classroom management skills;
- OR -
Equivalency: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (preferred) and experience in the development and writing of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that meet legal requirements, assessment procedures, and adherence to federal and state regulations for students with disabilities. Experience in providing instruction in urban settings, working with a diverse student population, multicultural instructional methods, and strong behavior intervention and classroom management skills.
Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:
- Valid California Education Specialist teaching credential with authorization in Mild/Moderate; or equivalent document, as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
- Valid English Learner authorization (CLAD or equivalent document)
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred
- Valid California Driver’s License
