POSITION TITLE: CHILD NUTRITION ASSISTANT II
CLASS DEFINITION:
Positions within this class are assigned to assist with all components of the cafeteria function in a school kitchen. Successful candidates in this class will typically have a background in one or more trades of the food service industry, a demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities, and/or the ability to handle money efficiently and effectively. Positions within this class require the ability to work with food and with children and teachers within a set schedule. Levels within this class are differentiated by virtue of the degree of skills and expertise required to perform successfully and by the assignment made. Positions within this class are under the direct supervision of the Director of Food Services or designee.
POSITION DEFINITION:
Under supervision, to assist in the preparation of school lunches; to serve lunches at a school cafeteria, and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
•Set up serving line
•Mix ingredients for green salads, molded fruit salads, vegetable salads and pasta salads
•Prepare fruits, vegetables, sandwiches, beverages, and other foodstuffs
•Apportion fruits, vegetables and other items according to established guidelines
•Perform routine cooking duties as required in a full service kitchen
•Prepare food items as instructed for transport
•Knowledge and operation of kitchen oven
•Assist Cook/Manager as needed
•Deliver and serve foods from a centralized kitchen to a smaller kitchen
•Serve food items to students and staff
•Wash serving and food preparation areas
•Make simple arithmetic computations
•Operate dishwasher and other mechanical kitchen equipment
•Store unused foods
•Clean dishes, trays, pots, pans, utensils and kitchen equipment
•Perform cashiering duties as assigned
•Operate a computer
•Account for money received
•Perform other related duties as assigned
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and four college semester units in school food service preparation or management; or a recognized food services certificate.
Certified Food Handler Certificated required. One year experience in school or commercial food preparation and kitchen maintenance.
Knowledge and Abilities- Knowledge of basic food servicing utensils and sanitation principles applicable to food serving and kitchen maintenance; ability to follow written and verbal directions; ability to keep simple records; ability to perform assigned tasks without close supervision; ability to perform work efficiently during rush conditions.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
___Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the
display screen of various office equipment and machines
___Able to conduct verbal conversation in English and other designated
languages
___Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)
___Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, walk
___Able to stand on hard flooring for sustained periods of time.
___Able to walk on hard flooring for sustained periods of time.
___Able to climb slopes, stairs and ladders.
___Able to push and/or pull a variety of tools and equipment.
___Able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
