Job Summary

Westridge is seeking an experienced Computer Science and Engineering teacher to join our team of dedicated faculty members beginning fall 2025. Reporting to the Director of Lower and Middle School, the Middle School Computer Science and Engineering Teacher will teach the 7th and 8th grade Computer Science and Engineering courses. Middle School Computer Science and Engineering is a dynamic program that engages students in deep thinking as they explore a wide range of topics including programming, engineering, and physical computing. Middle School CSE students develop their iterative thinking skills over the course of two semesters (one in 7th grade and the other in 8th grade) as they participate in projects that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-directed learning. Projects include 3D printing and the engineering design process; programming in Scratch, Processing, and Python; and physical computing. Students delve into topics that include the role of women in technology, cybersecurity, how the internet works, and the impact of technology on society. The ideal candidate will have an interest and skill in collaborating with colleagues as well as the potential and willingness to contribute beyond the classroom. The Middle School Computer Science and Engineering teacher will inspire and challenge our students through the mission of the school.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach 7th and 8th Grade Computer Science and Engineering Courses consisting of two sections of each course per semester
  • Preparation maintenance of course materials including Canvas LMS course sites and gradebook, syllabi, homework assignments, assessments, and supplementary materials
  • Administration and evaluation of class work, assignments, and assessments
  • Preparation and maintenance of student attendance records, grades, comments, and other required records
  • Planning, evaluation, and revision of curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction
  • Conveying enthusiasm for content and intellectual inquiry
  • Designing instruction that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving
  • Integrating appropriate technology to enhance learning; Westridge is a 1:1 laptop environment
  • Collaborating effectively with students, teachers, administrators, staff and parents
  • Modeling flexibility in implementing best learning practices
  • Supporting the well-being of all students
  • Participating regularly in professional development opportunities to maintain and grow expertise in the subject matter
  • Participating in ongoing skill development in diversity and equity to promote a culture of community and inclusion
  • Participating in the greater life of the division and school, including serving as an advisor

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science preferred
  • Preferred: 2–4 years of teaching experience at the middle or upper school level, ideally in an all-girls environment.
  • Experience in Scratch, Processing, Python, programming languages
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in mobile application development
  • Demonstrated engagement in ongoing professional development related to emerging technologies, curriculum design, and pedagogies relevant to computer science and engineering and the impact current trends have on Middle School students
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in the effective use of technology and integrating technological applications in the classroom
  • Attitude of collaboration and collegiality
  • Possession of a strong commitment to the mission and vision of Westridge School
