The Golden Charter Academy is an innovative start-up charter school that opened in Fresno, CA in August 2021. It is a place-based, science-oriented school that emphasizes environmental stewardship, social justice, and equity. The instructional approach employs Universal Design for Learning (UDL), a strategy to provide successful pathways for student success in all learners. GCA has a formal partnership with the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, where students utilize the zoo as a living, educational laboratory. The Golden Charter Academy is seeking highly skilled and committed teachers for their charter school that is open for grades TK – 6th. GCA will be growing to include 7th grade in the 2025-26 school year, and 8th grade for the 2026-27 school year. On February 24, 2025 GCA broke ground on it's new sustainable, green facility across the street from the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Reporting to the Principal, the Physical Education Teacher will be responsible for the rotation of all specified grade levels through Golden Charter Academy's Physical Education program. They will design, plan and implement a standards-based curriculum that teaches skills in physical fitness, health, individual or team sports, and more. The Physical Education Teacher will also assume the role of GCA Athletic Director and will oversee and coordinate all aspects of athletic activities. These responsibilities include developing and managing the department's budget, selecting coaches, managing schedules, maintaining equipment, promoting athletic activities and events, and supporting day-to-day school operations.

Requirements / Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND QUALITIES • Hold the valid Commission on Teacher Credentialing certificate, permit, or other document required for the teacher’s certificated assignment. • Experience as a head coach and/or coordination of sporting activities • Commit to work with educationally under-served students. • Contribute to a relentless and dedicated team of outstanding professionals. • Strong leadership and management skills. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Understanding fundraising and promotional events. • Experience with developing and managing a budget. • Ability to handle scrutiny from parents and the public.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - P.E. TEACHER • Teach skills in physical fitness, remedial exercise and adapted sports, health and recreation education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports • Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extend feasible • Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas • Maintain surveillance over storage and use of such items as school-owned uniforms, equipment, uniforms, and supplies to prevent loss and abuse • Evaluate each pupil's growth in physical fitness, and in physical skills and knowledge • Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - ATHLETIC DIRECTOR • Manage the athletics program and department budget • Coordinate with coaches on games, practice, and event schedules • Communicate with students and families • Coordinate and promote athletic events, such as games and fundraisers • Maintain an awareness of industry events and changes, such as regulation changes • Inspect facilities and equipment for cleanliness, safety, and upkeep • Manage the inventory of necessary equipment • Attend Athletic and other events that may occur outside of regular school hours

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT • Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities. • Physical stamina sufficient to sustain light to medium physical labor for up to 8 hours, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods of time. • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions as determined appropriate by the School • Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, school site to site) for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps, and to respond to emergency situations. • Physical strength sufficient to periodically lift and/or carry 15 pounds of material or supplies; occasionally lift 40 or more pounds with assistance. • Indoor/outdoor work environment. (*Includes overnight trips, hikes, outdoor activities)
