Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Skills /Qualifications: People skills, communication skills and successful record of leading and directing a successful Athletic Program. An appreciation for the Catholic spiritual and intellectual traditions, and a willingness and comfort infusing the Catholic faith into the Athletic Program. A bachelor’s degree is preferred, and successful completion of all state Basic Coaches Class work, First/ Aid CPR, Concussion Protocols and Sudden Cardiac Training is required. Who You Are: A practicing Catholic or a person that can embrace a leadership position within a faith-filled environment. A person with exceptional emotional intelligence. You can recognize your own emotions and regulate them. You can read the emotions of others and respond in a way that honors where the person is to support a positive interaction. What You Will Do: To be familiar with and supportive of the educational philosophy of the school and the diocese of San Diego and to accept the obligations of Christian witness. The coach is to provide guidance on physical training and fundamental skill development that allows the student to grow as an individual and participate in a team environment. Organize all levels of the program and to ensure that all levels are following the directives of the varsity head coach. All lower-level coaches report to the varsity head coach. Head varsity coach is responsible for hiring staff with approval of the director of athletics and the principal. Communication with all entities of the school community including students, parents, athletic department, staff / faculty, and local media. Responsible for attending all league, conference, and association meetings. For working with state and local governing authorities and adhering to all deadlines to ensure that the program is included in all activities that they are qualified to compete. For coordinating preseason and postseason team meetings, including banquets. Promotes academic excellence of the athletes and celebrates those successes Publicly. During the season of the sport, the head varsity coach is responsible to: Have practices or matches/games five days a week, no Sunday practice. Practice may not exceed more than 17 hrs per week including Contests. Have all game and practice/game activities approved by the Athletic Department. Have all uniforms and practice gear approved by the Athletic Department. Have all coaching staff complete and pass all required coaches’ certifications. Always have all athletic clearance cards from participating athletes with them. Meet with athletes that have been cut and explain where they need to improve. Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of athletes in their care during the hours of games, practice, and team activities. To work with the Athletic Training staff when injuries occur to their athletes and ensure a safe return to the team. Coordinate transportation to games. Coordinate out of town travel with the Athletic department. Work with ASB and school to promote the team in the media and on campus. Keep the athletic department informed of issues that may arise during the season at practice or game sites. Maintaining an accurate accounting of the teams operating budget—CCHS requires a zero-based budget process. Have an appropriate end-of-season recognition ceremony. Attend pre-season coaches meeting in the summer and Spring Sports Awards Ceremony as well as other required meetings. Begin all practices and games with prayer. Collaborate with the Dean of Mission & Ministry to provide faith formation opportunities for the team. This is an Independent Contractor (1099) role.
