Job Summary

Responsible for the care, maintenance and preparation of athletic fields (i.e., soccer, football, softball, baseball, rugby, etc.) • Mows and edges lawn areas. • Weeds and maintains grass areas and plant beds. • When so directed, mixes and applies fertilizers and herbicides (powder and liquid). • Prepares soil for plantings. • Makes changes and repairs to sprinkler systems, taking measures to prevent electrolytic corrosion. • Waters planted areas. • Prepares athletic fields for upcoming seasons as directed. • Operates grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., lawn mower, small tractor, edger, sweeper, string trimmer, rototiller, chain saw, power hedge trimmer, sprayers, and basic gardening hand tools. • Performs routine preventative maintenance and makes minor adjustments (tune-up) to equipment. • Uses power or hand saws, power or pole pruners, and similar tools, to trim limbs and branches. • May install/repair all types of fencing. • May be assigned to work with building maintenance or custodial staff as directed by Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Director.
