Job Summary

Primary Role The Library Assistant is responsible for demonstrating expertise in library materials and equipment while supporting the library program. This position involves performing technical and clerical functions that are unique to the specialized operations of library services, within the limits of delegated authority and responsibilities. The Library Assistant also supervises and trains student aides and adult volunteers, while maintaining supportive relationships with the students in their care. They collaborate with the Head Librarian and the Associate Librarian to supervise and assist students whenever they are present in the library. • Collaborates with the Head Librarian and the Associate Librarian in a supportive nature. • Participates in department meetings and professional development programs as appropriate. • Demonstrates evidence of knowledge and proficiency in using current technology. • Incorporates the Roman Catholic tradition and Lasallian heritage into library responsibilities. • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with faculty and staff. • Maintains a professional and service-oriented approach when interacting with the students and faculty, utilizing a wide range of resources and techniques that cater to students across various disciplines.

Requirements / Qualifications

Qualifications • Position candidates should be comfortable working with young adults. • A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science, or a Library Tech Certification is preferred. Library experience is preferred but not required. • Technology expertise and strong communication skills, both written and spoken, and the proven ability to work collaboratively with others are critical components of the desirable candidate. • Qualified applicants who are Catholic receive priority consideration.
