General Description
Under the direction of the Director, Access and Ability Center (AAC), the Access & Ability Specialist will assist students with disabilities with a variety of AAC and college-related activities, as well as support alternate media production, assistive technology trainings and test proctoring while maintaining accurate program-required data. This position will perform technical assistance that meets legal requirements for accessibility while supporting students' usage of various accommodations and assistive technologies.
This is a 12-month, full-time position.
The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
The initial salary placement is $62,150.

Job Duties
Job duties of the Access & Ability Specialist include:
• Support students as they navigate within their AAC portal (requesting their authorized accommodations and services) and answer any AAC and/or basic College of the Sequoias inquiries.
• Provide students with accurate information about educational and student support programs of the college.
• Assist students with applying to College of the Sequoias and/or AAC and navigating various student portals.
• Follow up with students who have temporary accommodations to coordinate obtaining disability documentation for AAC as well as assist students with DSPS verification for transfer.
• Communicate with AAC students regarding important dates or deadlines, such as priority registration, and success tips.
• Serve as liaison between faculty, students and the AAC to secure and translate instructional materials into alternate formats (i.e., Braille, Captioning) in a timely manner.
• Offer support with technical tasks related to production, delivery, and user training of assistive tools for students with disabilities.
• Upload, organize, and refer to converted materials in the current internal AAC digital library.
• Maintain detailed records of students' requests each semester, including dates of requested materials to ensure compliance of legal delivery timelines.
• Arrange equipment loan pickup/drop-offs with individual students and maintain detailed inventory records.
• Provide information and assistance to students regarding appointments, testing schedules, procedures, and requirements.
• Maintain security and confidentiality of documents including but not limited to student disability information, assessment results, testing materials and grades.
• Assist with AAC related data maintenance, reports, and data extraction when needed.
• Offer support in the Testing Center during high peak times.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):
Any combination equivalent to:
• Two years college-level course work from an accredited college or university OR successful completion of an assistive technology certification program AND
• Two years of experience in one or more of the following: alternate media production, access technologies, electronic text production, providing computer or software technical assistance in an instructional or educational setting working with students with disabilities.
Licenses
• Valid California driver's license
• An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
• Trends and developments in adaptive and assistive technologies (i.e., Kurzweil, Read & Write, Equatio, Learning Ally, Dragon, JAWS, ZoomText, Smart Pens as well as built-in accessibility features in Microsoft Edge, Google, Windows, Apple, Adobe).
• Windows and Macintosh operating systems, MS 365 (and later), Adobe, various web browsers, and data management systems (e.g., AIM), Canvas, and a wide variety of computer applications.
• Application and adaptation of media forms, including Braille, e-Text, audio, large print and tactile graphics, in conveying a wide range of college-level curriculum using varied methods of instructional delivery to meet individual students with disabilities learning requirements.
• Advanced techniques, uses and operations of equipment and software to produce captioning for videos and live streaming materials.
• Laws, regulations, requirements and court decisions related to DSP&S, Title 5, ADA, Section 504, copyright, test proctoring, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and Section 508 implementations and compliance.
• Recordkeeping procedures.
• Fundamentals of test administration
Ability to:
• Operate specialized equipment (i.e., Braille embosser) and hardware/software to convert and adapt materials into alternate media formats.
• Use effective communication skills in both oral and written formats, including proper English grammar.
• Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Have sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students with disabilities.
• Manage priorities in a fast-paced environment and staying current with technological advancements.
• Work effectively and cooperatively with students and staff.
• Utilize analytical skills to address situations effectively while meeting deadlines and exhibiting professionalism, patience, and courtesy.
• Access strategies and resources for various types of electronic and print information, including distance education, web pages, alternate media formats, and general computer technology.
• Learn the characteristics of new computer systems, software, and hardware related to assistive technology and update technical skills to adapt to changing technology.
Working Conditions
Environment
• Office
• Subject to constant interruptions.
• Intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion.
• Travel across Visalia campus and to Hanford and Tulare campuses as needed.
• Infrequent early morning or evening overtime may be required.
