Overview of the Role: The Division of Curriculum and Instructional Services is seeking a full-time Senior Program Specialist (Middle School). The Senior Program Specialist will implement an instructional coaching model aimed at closing the student achievement gap and accelerating learning for all students by strengthening teacher capacity with effective instructional practices and honoring the 3 Dimensions of Systemic Change: an assets-based approach to instruction, active student engagement through investigation and connection, and instruction that centers cultural and personal relevance. The Senior Program Specialist is a champion of equity by prioritizing inclusive strategies, data-driven decision-making, and culturally responsive teaching; they uphold LACOE’s commitment to ensuring all students thrive. The Senior Program Specialist will advance the CA 2023 Math Framework by weaving conceptual understanding, real-world problem-solving, and rigorous mathematical thinking into every professional learning experience to promote deep, meaningful math learning across K-12 contexts. The Senior Program Specialist will enable equitable instruction by planning with the 5 Components of Equitable and Engaging Teaching (Plan lessons around big ideas that help students make sense of the world, Engage students with tasks that are open-ended and engaging, Help students understand how math can be used to address social justice issues, Encourage students to ask questions and make conjectures, Emphasize reasoning and justification in sense-making) to mathematics Instruction from high expectations and scaffolding to reflective collaboration; these competencies ensure every student’s needs are met, regardless of background or ability.
Requirements / Qualifications
Experience: Five or more years of directly related and progressive teaching experience. Experience delivering professional learning and/or instructional coaching is required. Experience working with at-promise youth and/or alternative programs is desirable. Education: A Master’s degree related to any one of the following areas: education, curriculum, leadership, Math, Science, or secondary education from an institution of higher learning accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE Must possess and maintain a valid single subject teaching credential in mathematics with English Learner authorization (CLAD/BCLAD or equivalent required).
