K-5 PRINCIPAL
Definition:
Under general supervision of the Superintendent, shall be responsible for the implementation and continuation of State and Federally funded educational projects, produce curriculum publications, develop and recommend District policies and administrative regulations, assist in employee negotiations, conduct research, identify student needs, develop educational programs to enhance District goals, and perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
Personnel in this job classification may perform any combination of the essential duties shown below. - Plans, designs, and conducts follow-through strategies pertaining to curriculum development, and the implementation of instructional program and activities designed to meet the unique needs of students and the educational community.
- Participates in budget planning activities, and develops expenditure review and control procedures to ensure a cost beneficial and cost effective operational mode.
- Works closely with the school staff and school site council in identifying educational and instructional needs, and in developing long and short-range plans to improve the instructional process.
- Plans, develops, organizes, conducts, and maintains performance evaluation information systems designed to ensure the site goals and objectives are achieved, and that all levels of staff adhere to District, state, and national educational standards and goals.
- Plans, develops, organizes, and administers support systems which provide optimal educational opportunities for students.
- Reviews, evaluates requisitions, purchases, and allocates instructional supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Confers and consults with school and District personnel, parents, and pupils pertaining to educational and behavior management problems and alternative problem solutions.
- Directs, supervises, observes, assesses, and evaluated site personnel performance; established and maintains a positive team building and team management system.
- Confers with instructional support personnel in developing alterative problem solutions to unusual or unforeseen problems.
- Assumes a leadership role in the functions and activities of site and District advisory committees and groups.
- Assists the educational community in understanding the site and District goals and objectives, and the strategies utilized for achieving them.
- Participates in the planning, development, implementation, interpretation, and administration of policies, rules and regulation, and negotiated employee agreements.
- Supervises, directs, and coordinates the assignment of instructional personnel and student classroom assignments.
- Established administrative review procedures to ensure maximum utilization of monetary of human resources, and to ensure the implementation or result priorities.
- Coordinates student and family assistance programs with local social service and youth service agencies.
- Plans, develops and provides management reports pertaining to the functions activities, and general educational climate of the school facility.
- Confers with site personnel in resolving rights disputes which may include the conduct of formal hearings.
- Assists in the conduct of effective and efficient personnel management systems, including the recruitment, selection, retention, and separation of personnel.
- Responsible for managing, monitoring, and evaluating specially funded programs to ensure compliance with funding agency standards and guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
Administration principles, philosophies, and practices of elementary educational systems.
Appropriate instructional methods, strategies, and practices.
Federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines related to public school administration.
Effective management techniques and methods.
Curriculum and instructional strategies
Student engagement strategies
Needs of English Language Learners and instructional strategies to meet their needs
Computer information systems and data management
Ability to:
Plan/direct operational functions of an elementary school site.
Interpret and successfully apply a variety of federal and state law, regulations, and guidelines as they relate to public school education and administration.
Interpret and successfully implement District policies, objectives, directives, and educational philosophy.
Communicate effectively and tactfully in both oral and written forms.
Motivate, supervise, and evaluate the work of others.
Plan, manage, and prioritize a wide variety of functions within designated timelines and with limited resources.
Prepare a variety of reports and presentations including complex technical and analytical writings.
Counsel and advise employees, students, parents, and the public effectively and positively.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Provide support and coaching to instructional staff
Physical Demands:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out the essential job functions.
- Office environment subject to constant interruptions, subject to driving to off-site meetings.
- Ability to exert 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to stoop, climb, stand for long periods of time, and perform physical labor, with physical mobility and stamina to participate in activities which may be strenuous and ability to speak to deliver presentations.
- Hazards: Contact with sick children, and dissatisfied or abusive individuals are possible.
Experience:
Five years of certificated experience in elementary school, including at least two years of which should be in an administrative capacity in an elementary school setting such as vice principal.
Education:
Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Valid California Administrative Credential.
Valid teaching credential.
EL Certification required
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and proof of adequate insurance on your vehicle.
Conditions of Employment:
Insurability by the district’s insurance liability carrier. Employment is contingent upon fingerprint and background clearance, and proof of a recent negative tuberculosis test result

Appropriate placement on the Keyes Union School District Certificated Management Salary Schedule and medical benefits package.
Work Days/Hours
210 Days per year.
