PROGRAM BACKGROUND The Big Lift’s Inspiring Summers (BLIS) program keeps the joy of summer alive while fostering academic growth through a dynamic blend of learning and enrichment activities with the goal of stemming the tide of summer learning loss for students in San Mateo County by immersing them in a four-week, full-day program. Research demonstrates that early literacy development is critical to long-term academic success, yet many young students experience summer learning loss, which can widen achievement gaps over time. To address this, the Inspiring Summers program engages rising kindergarten through third-grade scholars in creative, hands-on experiences that strengthen reading skills, promote a love of learning, and support social-emotional development.
