Job Summary

Job Summary

Mission College Preparatory High School serves approximately 310 students in grades 9-12, and is located in San Luis Obispo, California. The ideal candidate as the principal of MCP will be a compassionate and visionary leader who is deeply committed to the mission of Catholic education. Candidates should be a practicing Catholic and have a proven track record of effective leadership in an educational setting, possessing experience in administration, curriculum development, staff management, and student support services. A Masters degree and California Administrative Services Credential are preferred.

Requirements / Qualifications

Qualifications: As the leader of the faith community of the school, the Principal shall: Be a practicing Catholic, in good standing with the church, who has knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. Be deeply committed to the development of the faith life of teachers and students. Understand and be dedicated to the ministry of Catholic education. As a professional educator, the Principal shall: Have a minimum of five years of experience in teaching and/or in administration with Catholic school experience. Hold a basic Catechetical Certification or adhere to the minimum requirements for Catechetical Certification as set forth by the Diocese of Monterey. Hold a minimum of 20 graduate hours towards a master’s degree with an emphasis in supervision, curriculum, instruction or other related education administration courses. Hold a valid California Standard Teaching Credential or its equivalent from another State. Hold a valid Administrative Credential or its equivalent from another state. Principals in the Diocese of Monterey who do not hold a current, valid Administrative Credential will need to complete the requirements for such a credential per State requirements and Diocesan policy within a period mutually agreed upon with the Superintendent of Schools. Required Application Documents (Upload four separate documents) 1. Letter of interest that aligns your skills and experience to the needs of the school, as you understand them. 2. Resume with appropriate dates of experience 3. List of five professional references and their contact information (these will not be contacted without your knowledge and approval) 4. At least 3 recent letters of recommendation

In addition to the certificate and materials required, please complete in one shared document: 1. A statement of philosophy for Catholic school leadership (500 words or less) 2. Answers to the following supplemental questions (150 words or less per response) a. Describe your basic philosophy of education. What are the beliefs that guide your actions as an administrator? b. Why do you wish to work in a Catholic school? c. What are the most important characteristics of an effective Catholic school? d. What leadership qualities do you have that would support your role as an administrator of a Catholic school?
