Job Summary

The Production & Design Conservatory at California School of the Arts—San Gabriel Valley is seeking to hire a teacher for the Lighting 1 and 2 classes for students in grades 9-12, beginning August 7, 2025. Classes are offered from 2:40 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays; the exact schedule is TBD. Lighting 1 introduces students to entertainment/stage lighting and trains them as beginner electricians and technicians. Lighting 2 continues their education and develops their design language and understanding. Both classes will be lecture- and activity-based. Intelligent Lighting and Programming furthers students' skills in manipulating ETC Eos software to program a variety of sample projects. A proven successful syllabus already exists, and we're looking to plug in an excited educator. The ideal candidate will have: • Three or more years of practical experience as a professional electrician, with at least one year acting as a master electrician. • Two or more years of practical experience as a professional lighting designer in regional or academic theatre, live, or corporate events. • Prior experience teaching, mentoring, or training students ages 13-18. • Strong organizational and leadership skills, including adhering to schedules and timelines, maintaining records, preparing reports, and working independently. • Technical expertise in electrician skills such as lighting hang and focus, data and networking, load calculations, and electrical and rigging safety. • Technical expertise in lighting design techniques such as historical knowledge, drafting (Vectorworks), programming and digital rendering, and proven professional work. • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, stay calm when challenges arise, and demonstrate attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
