GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The individual serving in this position will be providing language, speech and hearing therapy to pupils in assigned schools who have not acquired the necessary communication skills for their age and/or ability; identifies students with speech and language problems through screening and referral; assess student speech related needs; case load management; develop individualized student programs based on identification, assessment, remediation and evaluation of speech, languages, and hearing needs: identifies children for speech, language and hearing programs by survey and referral; annually reassess pupils previously identified; remediate all areas of speech, languages and hearing handicaps through: scheduling of individual and or group therapy sessions; conferencing, and coordination of services; modifies programs to provide improved service; develop a record-keeping system; refer students, when indicated, to nurses, psychologists, and others for further evaluations; confers with parents and school personnel concerning pupils with speech, language, and hearing problems; report on the progress of pupils receiving therapy; serves on IEP teams of staff, parents, teachers, and others to develop IEP goals and objectives; implement behavior management as appropriate to the setting; carries out other assignments that may be delegated by the principal, special education program coordinator, or Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Possession of a valid California Specialist Credential authorizing services for Speech & Language impaired students.
EXPERIENCE: Evidence of successful experience providing services to students identified with speech, language and hearing problems.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic knowledge of identifying pupils with speech and language problems; assessing pupil’s speech-related needs; developing an individualized program based on identification, assessment.
ABILITIES: Demonstrates ability to work with students, teachers, administrators, and parents; communicates easily and effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to deal effectively and easily with students; good organizational skills.
