CUCAMONGA SCHOOL DISTRICT

CLASS TITLE:  PARENT COMMUNITY LIAISON

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under general supervision, to assist in the development of a parent volunteer service program; to provide a communication link between the parents and the school; to interpret District policy, regulations, and program goals and objectives; to assist in performing clerical support activities; and to do other related work as required. 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 

Perform a variety of tasks as a communication link between the school, District, community, and parents. E

Post relevant District and School policy and regulations.

Maintain a parent communication center.

Post and distribute timely articles of education and community resources (i.e., health, dental, etc.).  E

Direct parents to appropriate sources to handle their questions, complaints, and comments.

Provide a friendly atmosphere where parents and other volunteers are welcomed, helped, encouraged and cared for.

Perform a variety of planning, organization, and coordination functions and activities related to parent volunteer service programs including orientation, on-going training sessions, and the annual Volunteer Recognition Tea.  E

Assist homeless families and foster youth and direct them to appropriate services in the school and community. 

Perform a variety of support functions including inventory, ordering and distribution of school supplies; recording data; copying documents; filing; laminating; bookbinding and other activities.  E

Provide information on the volunteer program for school newsletter; provide any clerical support necessary to the school or site council meetings.  E.

      KNOWLEDGE OF:

      Telephone techniques and etiquette.

      School’s programs and objectives.

      Correct English usage, grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary.

      Interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy and diplomacy. 

      Direct parents to appropriate sources to handle their question, complaints, and comments.

 

Provide a friendly atmosphere where parents and other volunteers are welcomed, helped, encouraged and cared for.

Speak, read, and write a second language, as required by the assignment;

Creatively and innovatively provide liaison services to the educational community;

Assist in the conduct of a comprehensive parent volunteer service program;

Interpret programs and activities designed to enhance educational opportunities;

Understand and carry out oral and written directions;

Establish and maintain cooperative educational community relationships

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:

 

EXPERIENCE:

One year of paid or volunteer experience providing service in parent and community service programs, or similarly related areas.  Second language preferred. 

EDUCATION:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.  Course work or training in parent education and community awareness programs is preferred.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Hearing and speaking to exchange information

Standing for extended periods of time

Bending at the waist and kneeling or crouching to provide assistance

Seeing to read assignments and monitor student activities

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various office and instructional equipment

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

182 Days.

Part-Time Position.

Classified bargaining unit member

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.  The department administrator or his/her designee will give the evaluation.

Classified Salary Schedule - Range 21
