Job Description Summary

 

The Nursing and Allied Health Division at Cuesta College is seeking Full-Time Tenure Track Nursing Instructors. The position requires the candidate to teach both theory, laboratory (to include simulation), and clinical courses. Assignments for the Nursing tenure-track position could include Monday through Friday daytime courses, afternoon, evening, and Saturday courses, depending on need.

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESFaculty are responsible for choosing appropriate course materials, developing a student-centered equity-minded syllabus adhering to a college-approved Course Outline of Record, outlining classroom expectations, and content to be covered as well as developing a plan for content delivery. This position requires regular communication with students throughout the semester, office hour availability, assigning grades, and referral of students to appropriate support services, as needed. Due to changes in instruction delivery, instructors will be expected to become online teaching certified, if not already certified.Evidence of Outstanding Ability as a Nursing Instructor

Desireable qualifications for the candidate to include, but are not limited to, nursing experience, training, or achievements:

• Commitment staying up-to-date with the latest developments in nursing and nursing education and in collaboration with industry and/or professional organizations;

 

• Ability to continuously reflect, evaluate, and improve teaching methods;

 

• Ability to organize and explain materials/instructions in ways appropriate to students' abilities and learning styles;

 

• Ability to engage students in their learning, promote development of clinical reasoning skills, and addresses cultural diversity in nursing practice;

 

• Ability to motivate students from a broad spectrum of cultural, academic, socioeconomic, and language backgrounds;

 

• Ability to develop student learning outcomes and methods for assessing achievement of those outcomes.

 

COLLEGE AND DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIESCollege or departmental responsibilities will include the following:

• Developing, participating, and/or updating program curriculum;

• Completing and submitting course assessments and evaluations;

• Serving on college committees (Participatory Governance);

• Participating and contributing to program review;

• Participating in Peer evaluations and hiring committees;

• Scheduling and working with full-time and part-time instructors in the department;

• Collaborating with classified staff and program director;

Essential Functions & Qualifications

 

To be considered for the Nursing discipline:

Required:

-Master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution;

OR

-Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution AND master's degree in health education or health science from an accredited institution;om an accredited institution;

OR

-The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the or see further information on Equivalency Petition Process Information below.).

OR

-A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).

OR

-The minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing

 

Master's degree or higher degree, which includes course work in nursing, education or administration; AND Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area (geriatrics, medical-surgical, mental-health/psychiatric nursing, obstetrics, or pediatrics) to which the faculty is assigned, which can be met by a) One (1) year's continuous full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a Registered Nurse in the designated nursing area; or b) one (1) academic year of Registered Nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency; as set by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND Valid California Registered Nurse License or eligibility for California Licensure as a registered nurse.

Required:

Desirable:

-Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges;

-Recent teaching (community college preferred) of theory, simulation, skills laboratory, and clinical experience in an acute care facility demonstrating expertise in medical-surgical, obstetrics, mental health/psychiatric, and/or pediatric nursing;

-Familiarity with teaching-related technology (i.e., Simulation, learning management systems);

-Experience examining and remediating one's instruction, interactions, and/or practices to more effectively engage and support diverse students;

-Demonstrated skill with addressing issues of equity;

-Demonstrated expertise in culturally responsive methodologies, particularly as it relates to students' lives, interests, and communities;

-Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

Interview Process Information

 

Selected applicants will be invited to give a teaching demonstration, and an interview on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

 

First Interviews will be held in person or via Zoom by candidate request. In person interviews are preferred and, in the interest of equity, candidates will be reimbursed up to $500 toward their travel expenses if they choose to interview on campus. Virtual teaching and lab demonstrations will be evaluated using the same criteria as in-person demonstrations and will be expected to facilitate similar levels of effectiveness, skill, engagement and interaction.

 

Second interviews will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

 

The selected applicant will begin their full-time teaching assignment in the Fall semester of the 2025-2026 school year, which begins on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
