DEFINITION
To install and repair plumbing and heating fixtures in school buildings; and perform related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Plumbing/HVAC Crew Supervisor. Exercises technical guidance over Plumber Assistants.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Install plumbing and heating systems and repair existing systems.
- Install water piping, and tap water and sewer mains and laterals.
- Install and repair steam and hot-water systems; renew pipes, valves, and fittings.
- Repair and replace valves, fittings, ball-cocks, and other fixtures.
- Cut and thread pipe.
- Pack faucets.
- Repair water supply, waste, sewerage, and drainage pipes.
- Wipe and flush joints.
- Clean out drain obstructions in water and sewer systems.
- Work from blueprints and sketches.
- Repair or replace heating fixtures.
- Care for plumbing tools and equipment.
- Maintain inventory of stock.
- Oversee the work of assistants.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Tools, materials, equipment and standard practices of the plumbing trade.
- State, County, and City plumbing codes and ordinances.
- Basic mechanics of heating systems.
- Maintenance procedures on water lines, sewer systems, water and gas valves, heating fixtures, and steam and hot-water systems.

Ability to:
- Perform skilled plumbing and heating repair and maintenance work.
- Use plumbing tools and equipment skillfully.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Work from sketches and diagrams.
- Read and write at the level required for successful performance on the job.
- Physical capability sufficient to perform job tasks.
Experience and Education
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to one year of responsible journeyman level plumbing experience or four years of broad experience assisting journeyman plumbers in the repair and installation of plumbing fixtures and systems.
License or Certificate
Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
